What is Informed-Sport?

maxinutrition-informed-sport.jpg

INFORMED-SPORT is a quality assurance programme for sports nutrition products, suppliers to the sports nutrition industry and supplements manufacturing facilities.

It is a voluntary programme that certifies that nutritional supplements and/or ingredients that carry the Informed-Sport logo have been screened for substances banned in sport by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). Informed-sport requires that every batch of product must be tested in order to grant use of the INFORMED-SPORT logo. Maximuscle view this with the utmost importance and have therefore registered every protein powder on the Informed-Sport programme.

Why?

INFORMED-SPORT was established in 2008 by HFL Sport Science, and now LGC (who acquired HFL in 2010), one of the world's leading doping control laboratories. The programme was created after a number of high-profile athletes failed anti-doping tests after consuming contaminated products.

HFL had been testing supplements since 2002, but it became increasingly apparent that there was a need for a robust risk minimisation programme which not only tested products for banned substances, but also guaranteed that the manufacturing facilities and the manufacturing process were of the highest quality standard.

The use of supplements is the norm for athletes at all levels, and Informed-Sport was created to give assurance to the consumers of supplements that the products they are using have been screened for substances banned in sport.

Which substances does INFORMED-SPORT screen for?

There are an increasing number of substances that are banned in sport by WADA and LGC tests for more than 160 of these prohibited compounds. These substances include anabolic agents, stimulants, beta-2-agonists, recreational drugs, masking agents and more.

LGC tests powders, bars, liquids, capsules, tablets, etc, using validated methodology that is accredited to the ISO 17025 standard. ISO is the international science standard recognised across the world and the standard to which the WADA laboratories must be accredited to. LGC was granted ISO17025 accreditation in 2003 by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), and has maintained it ever since.

The brand you can trust

The INFORMED-SPORT quality assurance programme screens sports nutrition products, ingredients suppliers and manufacturing facilities for the presence of banned substances. It is a voluntary programme and any product that bears the Informed-Sport logo has been tested for the presence of banned substances. Maximuscle goes the extra mile by registering its full range of protein powders, testing every batch that is manufactured so you can be sure that you are getting products that have passed a rigorous and robust quality assurance programme.

Unlike other brands that test products on a monthly blind testing schedule (Informed Choice), Maximuscle goes that little bit further by testing every batch of product before it is sold (Informed Sport).

Whether you’re safeguarding your athletic career or looking after your health and well-being, you can trust your Maximuscle protein powders are being tested to the highest of standards.
